I am a 26-year veteran teacher, as well as a certified counselor. I loved my thirteen years as an 8th grade Earth Science teacher. I was a middle school counselor for two years, but missed the classroom and the kiddos. I’m beginning my 12th year teaching at the alternative school in my district. Working with the kiddos that have made mistakes or have a hard time fitting is where I’m comfortable.
I branched out to pursue my long time desire to write fiction six years ago. My passion for teaching teens has translated into a passion for writing Contemporary, Young Adult fiction. Being a Native Texan made it a no-brainer for my stories to take place in Texas. Strong, smart female protagonists are a must for me as is an ethnically diverse cast of characters. I write what I know, what I live, what I care about.
As a graduate of all things Margie Lawson, I created and coordinate the Defeating Self-Defeating Behaviors(DSDB) Alumni Yahoo Loop.
I haven’t always found the writing classes I needed, so I’ve spent the last several years scouring the internet and how-to books for self-instruction. A Big-Picture person, I was drawn to story structure. I merged my interest in story structure with my teaching skills in a desire to share what I’ve discovered with other writers who want to strengthen their stories. I’ve funneled that knowledge into an online course Story Structure Safari available through Margie Lawson’s Lawson Writer’s Academy.
I’ve been married to an amazing man for thirty five years.
Our daughter works in business and finance, while our son is finishing up a BA in aviation and wants to be a pilot.
I love writing, reading–especially mysteries, movies–can’t ever get enough Cary Grant, Humphrey Bogart, and Audrey Hepburn.
I look forward to the journey that lies ahead.
